OCCURRENCE: breeding resident.
CHARACTERISTICS: light-grey body with dark wing tips; round tail; short curved beak.
FOOD: small rodents, birds, reptiles and amphibians; able to hunt large insects and bats during flight.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: raptor (bird of prey); flies over large areas in search of prey; hovers in the air before diving on prey; in winter can aggregate in dormitories with dozens of individuals.
