SUBSTRATE: epiphyte or saxicolous, it can grow on old walls. CHARACTERISTICS: upper surface grey, underside black; apothecia uncommon, isidia very frequent mainly on the oldest parts (central ones); the black isidia, resembling small dark fingers (lens), distinguish this species from other grey Parmelia species. NAME’S ORIGIN: Latin parmŭla, shield; Tilia, a common substrate of this species.
