CHARACTERISTICS: tree or shrub with evergreen thick leaves with trichomes on the lower surface, with greyish aspect and often with spiny branches; fruits smaller than those of cultivated olive; black fruits when mature (wild olive); can live over 1000 years.
ECOLOGY: well adapted to dry and stony soils.
