CHARACTERISTICS: rough scales; dark-brown dorsal scales except along two longitudinal lines on the sides which are whitish; during mating season male head and neck, and female hind limbs, become reddish. FOOD: beetles, spiders, ants, grasshoppers and pseudoscorpions; occasionally young wall lizards and plant debris. ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: terrestrial and a climber; can release the tail if threatened; produces sounds of unknown purpose.
