CHARACTERISTICS: annual herb with erect stem or pending in the upper part,
without hairs; hanging spikelets and flowers with two characteristic long awns.
ECOLOGY: cultivated and abandoned fields; ruderal.
OBSERVATIONS: when dry, they stand out due to the yellow color and because they are usually taller than the other herbs; Avena is the botanical genus of oat.
