CHARACTERISTICS: annual herb; spikelets in loose peduncles, looking light and
shaking easily with the wind (origin of the common name), resembling bees’ abdomen.
ECOLOGY: tall and low shrublands and abandoned fields.
OBSERVATIONS: also known as Rattlesnake Grass as it resembles the rattlesnake ‘rattle’.
