CHARACTERISTICS: smooth black skin with yellow spots.
FOOD: aquatic invertebrates, ants, snails, slugs, beetles, earthworms, centipedes and spiders.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: terrestrial when adult; moist areas with scrubland vegetation; eggs are laid in shallow waters; some populations are ovoviviparous.
