CHARACTERISTICS: back with multiple coloured hairs, from white to black passing through brown, and lighter belly; short tail, very long ears and big eyes; posterior members longer than in european rabbit.
FOOD: plant material.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: active all year; hides in burrows in the ground; when detected from distance it crouches in dense vegetation and escapes by jumping if the distance to a potential predator is short; runs at high velocity; defecates in latrines but these are less conspicuous than those of the rabbit.
