OCCURRENCE: breeding resident.
CHARACTERISTICS: black plumage with white undertail feathers; robust beak, red with yellow tip; short legs with long toes.
FOOD: small fish, worms, insects, plant material and eggs of other birds.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: wading bird; very generalist in terms of habitat; usually solitary.
