OCCURRENCE: non-breeding wintering migrant.
CHARACTERISTICS: back and head in shades of brown and yellow, white chest and belly; short thin beak.
FOOD: insects, crustaceans and berries.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: wading bird also with terrestrial habits; can feed during moonlit nights.
