CHARACTERISTICS: males in shades of orange, with wings and central tail feathers black; light form with black mask around the eyes, dark form with mask extending to the throat; female more brownish.
FOOD: insects.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: terrestrial; prefers arid areas; observes the surroundings perched on wires or piles of stones; coarse unmelodious song.
