OCCURRENCE: resident; endemic to the River Guadiana basin.
CHARACTERISTICS: body laterally compressed; dark-olive dorsal side, ventral side yellow or pink; small head; inferior mouth with short barbels.
FOOD: macroinvertebrates and plant debris.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: adults prefer watercourses with fast currents and coarse-grain gravel while juveniles choose calmer waters.
