CHARACTERISTICS: very thin body with short cephalothorax with a pair of big eyes blue-grey, two pairs of wings and three pairs of long legs; segmented and very large abdomen.
DEVELOPMENT: indirect.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: active all year; adults feed on other insects, particularly Diptera; larvae (aquatic) prey on insects, fish and amphibian larvae; prefers aquatic habitats of static or low current waters; while mating, males and females bend their thoraxes uniting them in a heart formation.
