OCCURRENCE: Breeding resident.
CHARACTERISTICS: rounded body in shades of brown with white spots; short and curved beak; yellow iris.
FOOD: small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and a variety of invertebrates.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: raptor; one of the few owl species with daytime activity; usually guards its territory by observation from high places; monogamous; vocalizations similar to a dog barking.
