OCCURRENCE: resident.
CHARACTERISTICS: the Squalius alburnoides complex has different morphotypes (distinct ploidies), indistinguishable by external morphology; body laterally compressed; dorsal side darker than ventral, silvery lateral sides.
FOOD: larval and adult insects.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: preference for shallow watercourses with emergent macrophytes and reduced width and depth.
