CHARACTERISTICS: rugged skin dorsally green-greyish with yellow blotches, smooth skin elsewhere with white ventral area; black spur, nail-shaped, on external finger of the hind-legs.
FOOD: high variety of insects and other invertebrates.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: terrestrial when adult; uses spur to become buried in order to hide or to preserve skin moisture; males vocalize under water; the biggest tadpoles in Portugal.
