OCCURRENCE: breeding resident.
CHARACTERISTICS: plumage uniformly dark, almost black; long neck; short curved beak; whitish legs.
FOOD: carcasses, especially of mammals.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: scavenger; usually forms groups of two or more, although they may join flocks of griffons.
