CHARACTERISTICS: chead with a pair of big eyes and a pair of filiform antennae; uniform coloration pattern on head, thorax and elytrum, dominated by green and purple tones with a metallic sheen, a white spot in the centre of each elytrum and white patches on their margins; six long dark legs with many hairs on basal joints.
DEVELOPMENT: indirect.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: consumes a variety of invertebrates (eg, spiders, grasshoppers, butterflies, caterpillars) that it chases with short flights or by running; larvae dig vertical galleries in the soil.
