CHARACTERISTICS: grey back with black stripes and spots and yellowish belly; long and bushy tail; relatively short limbs with semi-retractile claws; large ears and eyes.
FOOD: small mammals, birds, invertebrates and fruits.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: active all year; rests in tree holes and rock crevices; originating from North Africa but present in Iberia for centuries; prefers vegetated areas and defecates in latrines sited in high places; lone hunter.
