GROWTH FORM: acrocarpous moss.
CHARACTERISTICS: leaves with curved margins, ending in transparent hair-point tips characteristic of the genus; distinctive capsule, with a sixteen tooth, curved peristome.
ECOLOGY: forms xtensive tufts on tree trunks; abundant in regions with human influence, resistant to high air pollution.
