CHARACTERISTICS: small shrub of soft and wrinkled leaves and numerous trichomes; deep pink flowers that last only one day; the fruit is a capsule globular that contains many seeds.
ECOLOGY: low shrublands in warm climates.
OBSERVATIONS: the showy flowers of Cistaceae are very attractive to insects.
