GROWTH FORM: pleurocarpous moss.
CHARACTERISTICS: leaves overlapping as scales, very concave and with single nerve; horizontal and oblong capsule; long shoots, forming yellowish or glossy green lax wefts; widely used in Christmas cribs, excessive collection can cause conservation problems.
ECOLOGY: on soils of shady, humid slopes.
DISTRIBUTION: widespread in Portugal.
