GROWTH FORM: acrocarpous moss.
CHARACTERISTICS: oval spathulate-shaped leaves with rounded apex; cylindrical capsules, with twisted peristome; frequently with gems at stem tips.
ECOLOGY: forms dense tufts on tree trunks and branches.
DISTRIBUTION: common, except in highly polluted regions.
