CHARACTERISTICS: largest Portuguese trapdoor-spider; eyes grouped together in pairs: two lateral and one median; large and robust body with elevated dark cephalic area; one pair of spinnerets.
DEVELOPMENT: direct.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: relatively common; generalist predator; hides in covered holes of a depth of 10-20 cm; hunts by hiding under the lid of this refuge and ambushing passing prey.
