CHARACTERISTICS: shrub with sticky and shiny leaves due to labdanum, with a distinctive odour; with numerous trichomes on the lower surface; white flowers with or without brown spots which last only one day; the fruit is a capsule with many seeds. ECOLOGY: dry and warm places; poor and acid soils; can become dominant in burnt or disturbed areas. OBSERVATIONS: the labdanum had several uses (e.g. analgesic) and is currently used in perfumery.
