NUTRITION: mycorrhizal species. CHARACTERISTICS: cap (<25cm) hemispherical to flat-convex, bright red fading to orange, shinny, with numerous white pyramid-shaped warts; hymenophore (with gills) white; stipe (6-25x1-5cm) cylindrical with a bulbous base, white; ring large, thicker at the edge, white; volva reduced to concentric rings of white scales; easily distinguished by the color and ornamentation of the cap, and volva shape.
