CHARACTERISTICS: rugged skin; light-brown back with small reddish blotches, whitish or yellowish abdomen.
FOOD: ants, snails, beetles and spiders.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: terrestrial when adult; hides under stones during the day or in animal holes; the male carries the eggs in its back until they are laid in water.
