CHARACTERISTICS: spiny annual or biennial herb; jagged leaves with white veins; flower-heads with spiny bracts and white or pink to purple-lilac flowers.
ECOLOGY: ruderal and in fallow fields.
OBSERVATIONS: galactites derives from the Greek gala (milk) due to the dense white hairs that cover stems and leaves.
