CHARACTERISTICS: biggest lizard of Portugal; green coloured with small blue and black spots; males have large blue ocelli on the sides of the body.
FOOD: great variety of invertebrates, wall lizards and small mammals; occasionally fruits.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: terrestrial; during mating season males become territorial and aggressive.
