CHARACTERISTICS: similar to a butterfly caterpillar it has a clearly segmented body, well developed head with simple eyes and two pseudo-legs at the end of the abdomen; the adult resembles a small butterfly with composed eyes and ocelli, long and thin antennae and 2 pairs of membranous wings.
DEVELOPMENT: indirect.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: larvae are herbivores/detritivores and aquatic, living in clean water rivers with current; adults are carnivores and poor flyers, living in river sides.
