CHARACTERISTICS: aquatic herb, mostly with annual cycle; rooting in the soil but with emerging and/or submerged leaves; white tepals with nectar.
ECOLOGY: watercourses with little flow or standing waters (fresh or brackish water).
OBSERVATIONS: can form lush mats on waterways, which indicates eutrophication.
