CHARACTERISTICS: variable dorsal colour, from brown-grey to yellow or black; white belly and ventral tail; short tail, long ears and big eyes.
FOOD: plant material.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: active all year; digs burrows in the ground; prey of many species; digging behaviour favours soil and vegetation conservation; defecates in latrines.
