CHARACTERISTICS: robust body; grey back, black belly and white head with two
longitudinal black stripes; short limbs with long claws; long snout.
FOOD: invertebrates, small vertebrates, fruits, roots and cereals.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: hibernates in the coldest months; digs burrows and underground galleries used by several generations; prefers dense scrublands; lives in family groups of variable size.
