CHARACTERISTICS: elongated body; members well-developed; thick hair coat, dark brown or black and tail covered with short and sparse hairs; long head; small eyes and ears.
FOOD: aquatic plants, herbs, insects, small fishes and tadpoles.
COLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: active all year; builds burrows with two entrances along the margins of streams and rivers, one above and another under water.
