CHARACTERISTICS: dorsum dark brown or black and black face with white mask; elongated body; relatively short limbs and tail; large head; short and rounded ears.
FOOD: amphibians, rabbits, rodents, birds, eggs and insects.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: active all year; resides in holes dug in the ground; solitary and territorial; prefers habitats with dense scrub.
