CHARACTERISTICS: perennial herb with fleshy root; hollow stem with bands and grooves; leaves similar to parsley; white flowers grouped in an umbel (umbrella-like). ECOLOGY: humid sites, margins of streams. OBSERVATIONS: oenanthe derives from the Greek ainos (wine) and anthos (flower), due to the floral scent similar to wine; poisonous plant.
