CHARACTERISTICS: annual herb with erect stem and hairless; flat leafs with rough texture that scratches; spikes on the top (usually two or three), flattened and with different orientations.
ECOLOGY: grasslands, abandoned fields and roadsides.
OBSERVATIONS: used as a model-plant for many studies, since its complete genome was sequenced.
