CHARACTERISTICS: annual herb, sometimes perennial; hairy leaves in a basal
rosette; ovoid and cylindrical spike with silky look due to hairy bracts.
ECOLOGY: wet grasslands; ruderal.
OBSERVATIONS: the name ‘lagopus’, relative to the hare leg hairs, was given due to the similarity, due to spike’s appearance.
