CHARACTERISTICS: perennial herb with rhizomes and green stems close together forming tussocks, without visible leaves; flowers gathered in "globes".
ECOLOGY: waterlogged soils in areas with shallow groundwater, watercourses and ponds.
OBSERVATIONS: the reeds provide shelter and hiding for several animals (e.g. wild boar).
