HARACTERISTICS: light back; orange head; black neck, chest and tail; female with brown crown and darker back; red beak.
FOOD: aquatic vegetation.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: wading bird; dives to forage for food; can group in flocks with other species of duck.
