OCCURRENCE: breeding resident.
CHARACTERISTICS: grey-brown back, reddish belly, white throat surrounded by a thick black line; legs and beak short and red; red eye contour; juveniles are brownish.
FOOD: Seeds and insects.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: terrestrial; the newborns follow the mother, hiding among the grasses.
