OCCURRENCE: breeding resident.
CHARACTERISTICS: orange back, head and belly; black and white wings; relatively long tail; long beak; crest on top of the head.
FOOD: insects, seeds and berries; occasionally small reptiles and amphibians.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: terrestrial; prefers habitats with relatively open vegetation; sound is similar to the cuckoo.
