OCCURRENCE: breeding resident.
CHARACTERISTICS: back and head in shades of brown, white belly and characteristic black mark on throat; relatively long neck; strong beak.
FOOD: insects and seeds.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: terrestrial; in winter forms large flocks with other species of lark; flaps its wings slowly.
