OCCURRENCE: breeding resident.
CHARACTERISTICS: head and back in shades of brown, white belly and dark vertical stripes on the chest; small crest on top of the head. FOOD: seeds and insects.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: terrestrial; moves in small flocks; both parents feed the chicks.
